Primitive Reflexes don’t require any thought. They give baby the instinct to breathe, to feed when hungry, to squirm and cry when uncomfortable, to coo when cuddled.
Each reflex plays a part in the necessary growth of the fetus and infant and paves the way for each stage of early development.
At three to five months, primitive reflexes herald one of the first and most important milestones— rolling over.
Primitive reflexes is another example of how muscle movement is key to healthy brain development. It prompts genes to build the brain and grow the neurons and connections that advance a newborn from one milestone to the next.
