Thank you Cowichan Valley, I feel deep gratitude for your commitment to the reality of our need to heal and protect this planet while also meeting the needs of its people.

As the face of the Green Party’s campaign in the Cowichan Valley, it’s also a reality that I am nothing without the hard work of a very large team of volunteers — a team of people of every stripe who have put their lives on hold to support a candidate with policies they believe in.

But the present reality is that the people have spoken and Debra Toporowski will represent our community in coming sessions the provincial legislature. My opponent was not my “enemy” and I am thankful for her clean campaign, as was shown by all parties in this time-honoured democratic process.

Debra now inherits and is obliged to represent the substantial Green constituency gathering momentum in the Cowichan Valley.

We aren’t going away.

Despite coming up short in this contest we remain tall as a force no longer to be ignored by those put in the seat of power by an increasingly informed electorate.

In the spirit of unity over partisanship, I extend congratulations and best wishes to Debra Toporowski.

And to you, my supporters, I ask you to see the election not as a loss so much as a successful first step along a hopeful path to the future.
