I came across this article today and just wanted to share my thoughts. I truly believe there are multiple sides to every story and this one is no different. I'm a bit disappointed that this one seem to side with the tenants with no thought of the landlords involved. Yes, I understand that we are currently living in a time with rising interest rates and food/gas costs and a lot of people are on the verge of poverty/bankruptcy. But withholding rent is wrong. Just because an individual feels that the rent is "unfair", doesn't make it right for them to just stop paying rent. Not all landlords are rich, they have families to feed and bills to pay too. They have saved up their hard earned money to buy real estate as an investment for their family so they can live comfortably; many of them do not have the capability to just cover the mortgage, property tax and insurance for an entire apartment building for a few months. I just wished that the media will stop painting all landlords in such poor light. Lastly, and this is my own personal opinion, but I do not feel like a $400 rent increase over the last 10 years is unreasonable! Thoughts?
