Today is Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada. At MCC and MCC Thrift, we recognize that our work takes place on the traditional territories of many Indigenous Nations. Today, we invite you to join us in listening, learning and walking the path of reconciliation with humility.

Indigenous Neighbours is an MCC program across Canada that strives to build respectful relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. MCC has walked in friendship and solidarity with Indigenous neighbours for over 50 years. Together, we share some important values. A concern for justice. A close connection to the land. Commitment to community.

We also share an awareness that the history between Mennonites and Indigenous peoples includes some deep injustices. As we address this history, MCC is committed to following Christ’s call to healing, reconciliation and peace. It’s not always an easy road – but a critically important one.

MCC’s Indigenous Neighbours program listens to the voices of Indigenous people and communities wherever we work. We rely on their knowledge and experience. Because no two relationships look the same, the program has a unique shape in each province.

When Elizabeth discovered she was expecting triplets while living with HIV, the future felt uncertain. Through MCC’s partnership with Faith Alive Foundation in Nigeria, she received free prenatal care, guidance and ongoing support. Today, her babies are thriving and HIV-free, and her family continues to receive care when they need it. 💛
