It’s no secret that Edmontonians have been grappling with rising food costs over the past few years. As of March 2026, Edmonton City Council passed a motion to invalidate restrictive covenants with the provincial government on former supermarket sites. However, are restrictive covenants the real reason behind our city’s “food deserts”?
