From auroras to lightning strikes, the skies above us produce the most spectacular visual effects, some of which we may only ever see in photos. We're used to little fluffy clouds (cumulus) or high wispy threads (cirrus) or massive thunderheads (cumulonimbus). But shelf clouds, roll clouds and funnel clouds are rarer.
