Think your water might have broken? Here’s a simple way to use the TACO acronym in that moment:
Time — When did it start?
Amount - How much did you notice, Is it a gush or a slow trickle? Are you standing in a puddle of water?
Colour- Was it clear, brown, green or yellow in colour?
Odour — Does it have a smell to it, is the smell fresh, earthy or foul?
It can help you pause, gather information, and decide next steps. If you suspect your water has released, it is recommended to head into the hospital for examination or contact your midwife.

Taking time for pre-baby conversations can make a big difference. It gives you and your partner space to get on the same page, talk through expectations, and think about how you want to handle those early days. It doesn’t mean you’ll have everything figured out before baby's arrival, it just means you’ve started the conversation, and that can make things feel a whole lot more grounded when baby arrives.
