We all need a break from the steady, grinding reality of the COVID crisis, and so the advice for today is to “take a step back: respond vs react.”
Helping professionals with the skills to respond instead of react can “flip” stressful situations. It also reminds us that chaotic events don’t have to dominate our thinking, we have to step out of the clutter, and focus on what we are doing, thinking, and feeling in the moment.”
A good example of this is to count to ten, take a breath, walk around, relax your muscles, or collect your thoughts before continuing in a stressful situation.
Instead of reacting–with anger, fear, frustration, impatience, annoyance, guilt, or depression–you respond by “stepping out” and waiting for a response.

A reminder to be mindful is something that we can all use during these times.
