Sounds like a rescuer went out to assist someone in caring for their dogs as they were in hospital - but was asked to not go out until he had returned home. She went out on her own - was mauled by the pack dogs and dragged into the bush, where she died.
She did NOT go with a buddy, but attended alone either at dusk or once it had become dark - was accosted by the pack dogs and mauled.
Roughly 1am a friend called the police to have them check for her cell phone, it was pinging in the bush. The police and services did go out to try to find her but the ping radius on TV shows is not "life" - and the bush was treacherous - they had to abandon the search and look for her at first light.
She was found the next morning (yesterday) deceased and surrounded by the dogs who had killed her - no word on what became of or is happening with those dogs - but - the community lost a dedicated animal advocate and I'm sure K9 Manitoba will be enacting some changes to protocols and procedures after that event.

PLEASE do NOT go out to the reserves
- alone
- unauthorized
- without someone from the rez expecting you and knowing where you are
- empty handed (expect to share your bubblegum with the entire class)
- without proper safety and equipment in place

IDEALLY
- Have a council member attend with you (for authorized building access)
- Bring animal control or by-law officers with you (human authorized to manage animals if needed)
- Work with people on the reserve to assist them in assisting each other (ask them if a neighbor or family member can come to town and pick that up for them, who on reserve can bring the dog to you, if you can drop the care package off at the band office and someone on that end can sort it)
- Obtain a bite suit, and wear it
- Work with the rez by-law officers, and councils to assist communities, and meet the needs
- Do NOT exit your vehicle until you are safe, supervised, and sure you are not in danger and if things go sideways, help is available and will be provided.

So very saddened to hear of this incident - and the resulting impacts on the community and dogs in it. Rescue is tough work without wage, or recognition - but in which, to do it we risk everything to help these animals out - our homes, our relationships, our health and safety, our lives ... everything.
Stay safe. Educate. Prepare.

UPDATE on - the Dog who arrived yesterday (post was just deleted)
I've had to take the intake post down as he is "contraband" (Seized evidence) - After a brief discussion it's been agreed that he will NOT BE offered for rehoming in the area/region but will be transported out of the area.
So - he's our camper #2 ... Just chillaxin' in the kitchen ... :)

He is still here.
He's in decent shape - just his coat is a disaster and shows definite neglect. Ministry is sorting that end out.

All good - All is well - From all indications all the powers that be ARE pursuing the matter - DOG is here and safe.

It only LOOKS LIKE the rescue is "quiet"
There's still - 7 dogs in this house right now though :P
