Gerber Farms

Came across this calf on one of our checks- Bedded itself down in the hay bale, grabbed itself a bite to eat, and was soaking in the warmth of the sun after a cold night while the rest of the herd ate around it. We try to keep our herd dry and warm when it's cold out or when the weather is suboptimal. If the remnant of the hay bales is not enough bedding, we'll add on some straw, especially if it's wet and cold. If the calves can nestled themselves into it, we can have a little bit more peace of mind that they will be able to keep warm with that layer of insulation between them and the cold ground.
