After some frustrating delays in 2025, a massive $10 billion project’s officially moving ahead in Fort Saskatchewan. Dow’s proceeding with its "Path2Zero" initiative to build the world’s first net-zero emissions ethylene and polyethylene plant. It’s a huge bet on the future of sustainable manufacturing right here in Alberta.

The scale of this build’s hard to wrap your head around. It’ll create between 7,000 and 8,000 construction jobs during the peak of the project. Once the doors open in 2029, it’ll provide 400 to 500 permanent, high-paying positions for people in the region.

This plant represents a new chapter for the petrochemical industry. It uses carbon capture and hydrogen technology to eliminate emissions instead of just reducing them. It’s a clear sign that major global players see Alberta as a prime location for the next generation of green industrial tech.
