Grande Prairie Fire Department

The Grande Prairie Fire Department is urging residents to take extra care when disposing of smoking materials following a recent rise in human-caused fires across the community. In nearly all recent incidents, improperly discarded smoking materials are suspected or confirmed to be the cause. 🚬🔥

Over the last 48 hours alone, firefighters responded to four separate fires.

While no injuries have been reported, multiple residents have been displaced and property losses have reached into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

With current fire conditions remaining very high to extreme, residents are reminded to never toss smoking materials into grass, planters or garbage cans and to always fully extinguish them properly.

There are no fire alarms outdoors, meaning fires can grow quickly before they are discovered.

Wrapping up our Camp F.I.R.E. recap. 🧯

Day 3 was Live Fire Day , sponsored by Ovintiv.

Campers stepped into controlled live fire scenarios, beginning with water supply and moving into vehicle and dumpster fires and vehicle extrication.🔥

Each group then rotated through live fire evolutions with instructors, building confidence in a real-world setting.

The day wrapped up with a graduation, recognizing the work each participant put in over the weekend and marking the end of Camp F.I.R.E. 🎓
