The cheapest CPL cost you see is usually not the real cost.

At our school, the posted Commercial Pilot Licence package is $22,987.50 before GST. That includes 35 hours dual, 30 hours solo, 5 hours of ground briefing, CPL books, online ground school, the flight test fee, and licensing and document fees. Our pricing is current as of February 15, 2026, subject to change, and totals may vary depending on individual effort and ability.

But that is not the full zero-to-CPL cost for someone starting from scratch.

Transport Canada’s CPL-A path is built around 200 total hours in aeroplanes, with 80 hours of ground school.

So if you want the honest planning math, here it is using our current posted prices.

Our minimum PPL package is $19,672, and our CPL package is $22,987.50. Together, that gives you about 110 hours of flight time on paper. That still leaves about 90 more hours to reach the 200-hour CPL requirement. At our posted C172 rental rate of $252 an hour, that extra time building adds about $22,680. That brings a rough minimum zero-to-CPL estimate to about $65,339.50 before GST.

In real life, the total can be higher. We also note that the PPL often averages $20,000 to $27,000, GST applies, totals vary by student effort and ability, and a fuel surcharge may apply. So for many students, a more realistic zero-to-CPL path can land in the mid-$60,000s to low-$70,000s before tax. That estimate is based on our current public pricing, not a custom quote.

The good news is this. At our school, the practice areas are within five minutes of each airport, which means less paid time spent in transit. We also offer four-star private accommodations, which can help out-of-town students train more steadily.
