Urbanize Halifax
Halifax Development and Planning News
Halifax should be implementing a one-way street hierarchy across the North End’s parallel grid. By converting specific north-south corridors into one-way pairs, we could significantly improve traffic throughout while dedicating reclaimed lane space to Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). If integrated with proper signal synchronization, this approach offers a more scalable solution for future traffic flow than simply widening existing arteries.
One-way streets simplify turns at intersections (fewer directions for cars to watch for), which speeds up transit and increases pedestrian safety
BRT works best when it doesn’t have to fight left-turning traffic. A one-way setup removes that «blocking» effect almost entirely. That’s just my opinion on the Robie Street expansion plan.
