Imagine if you own a Sandwich Business, and you are trying to rank on Google. You probably won't get the top spot for the "sandwich" term, even though it is the term that you wish to rank high on. Why? Because other businesses have already spent years ensuring that their website has all the keyword and backlinks to rank at that spot.

It is for this reason that you should do your research and try to rank for long tail keywords. These are keywords that are similar in context to what you want to rank on, but doesn't have as tough as competition.

An example would be "sandwich place downtown Toronto" - Google is smart, and it will take into consideration those extra keywords and help you rank higher when an user searches for that specific term.

And make sure to build backlinks to your website from reputable sources, to increase your Domain Authority.
