BIO

Angela DeMontigny has a passion for design. Edginess and elegance intertwine with cultural Chippewa-Cree-Metis elements.

In 2005 I was part of a Women’s Water Ceremony on Thunder Mountain.

The Ancestors gave me 7 songs to leave at the mountain and 7 to share.

Water from the Sky brings rain but not just by randomly singing the song or listening to it.

It’s all about your intentions, emotions and what you believe while you’re singing it.

A group of us hand drum singers in Castlegar BC brought gentle rains when I was there several years ago. 3 wildfires surrounded the area and nearly all road exits were no good. By the time the song was over, the rain had started.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I taught grade 5 and 6 students in a remote Indigenous community how to sing this song. The rain came later that day.

The basics: Before you even sing or put the song on, imagine yourself right where those fires are raging, except there is no fire anymore. There are just ongoing gentle rains and you are getting soaked. It feels cool on your skin. Your hair is dripping but it’s such a relief you just smile. Feel gratitude for the rain. Got any positive memories of playing in the rain? Bring them up and NOW sing.

My prayers and this song go out to all who are affected by these fires and smoke.

If you are anywhere there is firesmoke, please protect your lungs. N 95 mᐃsks can help a LOT. HEPA air purifiers, especially with a charcoal filter, will help. Home-made box fan air purifiers (look up “CR box”) will also help. Use whatever you’ve got. And pray rain, like above.

Don’t pray for rain to come. Just close your eyes and feel it as if it is already there.

I know this sounds hokey but it works. I’ve been bringing rain with this song ever since it literally came down to me from the sky when I stood in the downpour we drove back in from that Water Ceremony.

Follow the instructions and protocols for best results. Those are included in a pdf along with the original (CD version) song and lyrics.

Throughout my experience as an entrepreneur (30 years) I have experienced many bumps in the road with regards to trade. One thing I’ve learned is that there is always an opportunity within a seemingling dire situation if you look for it. I believe that opportunity is the (better late than never) campaign to buy Made In Canada to offset Trump’s tariff war.

This country also has an unprecedented amount of Indigenous owned businesses - many of them women! I urge you to support these businesses who provide authentic and beautiful products and unique services which support families and communities across the country.

Please share and add your favourite Indigenous and Indigenous-woman owned businesses and brands in the comments here!! I’ll start you off with a few of mine 😍

Hiy hiy, miigwetch, Nia:wen, thank you for!! 🙏🏽❤️🕯️🫶🏼
