The other day I went to Studio410 Sound Productions to add some last minute tambourine and shaker to Carm Milioto’s new album which is coming out soon. It was also the first time I got to hear the songs with all the different layers on it, since last time I heard it was when we put down the bed tracks at the very beginning, and I was blown away.

Most of the time when someone gets me to play on their songs the drums are the very first thing to get recorded, so by the time I hear it at the end there is such a massive difference in how it sounds. I’m sure most drummers feel the same, and I’m also sure someone like a sax player would often have a different experience, because they would add their parts much later in the project. I always find it a tricky balance not to play “too much” because the bed tracks sound so empty, and naturally we want to fill that space. You have to really use your imagination to predict how everything will sound when all the parts are on it and I think everyone involved did a great job of picking their spots and allowing all the instruments and vocals shine. Nobody’s parts were tripping over each other.

All in all I’m super excited for everyone to hear this stuff and I’m super proud of my bro Carm for putting in all the work to make this happen!
