There's a voice a lot of us have. the one that says you shouldn't still be struggling. That you should be further along. That other people handle harder things without falling apart, so what's your problem.

That voice is lying.

Overwhelm isn't a sign that you're weak or fragile. It's a sign that you're human, and that your nervous system is doing what nervous systems do when they've been running on too much for too long.

The first step. genuinely, not just as a platitude. is naming it. Not analyzing it. Not fixing it. Just: this is overwhelming, and that's real, and I'm allowed to say so.

If you've been white-knuckling it alone, you don't have to keep doing that.

This one is for the people who measure their day by what they got done.

Who feel a quiet guilt when they rest. Who have a hard time sitting still without justifying it. Who find it easier to help everyone else than to ask for a single thing.

Your worth was never in your output. It was never in how efficient you are, how much you hold together, how rarely you need anything.

You are allowed to take up space simply by being here.

That's not a productivity tip. It's not a mindset hack. It's something that needs to be felt in the body. and that's work. Real work. The kind therapy is actually for.

If self-compassion feels harder than it should, you're not alone. And you don't have to figure it out by yourself.

Grief doesn't follow a script.

Sometimes it shows up as tears. Sometimes as anger that feels bigger than the situation. Sometimes as a completely inappropriate laugh at a funeral. Sometimes as nothing at all. a numbness that worries you more than the sadness would.

All of it is grief. All of it is normal. And none of it has a timeline.

One of the things that complicates grief is the pressure to do it right. to be sad but not too sad, to move on but not too quickly, to feel whatever you're supposed to feel in the order you're supposed to feel it.

But grief doesn't work that way. It works in waves, in spirals, in silences. It comes back when you thought you were done with it. It asks to be felt, not managed.

If you're in a complicated season of loss and not sure what you're feeling or why. that's okay. You don't have to have it figured out to reach out.

There's a reason you can know, intellectually, that you're safe. and still feel terrified.

Trauma doesn't live where logic does. It lives in the body. In the part of your brain that was shaped by survival, not reason. When something in your environment echoes what happened before, that part of your brain doesn't wait for you to think it through. it acts.

That's not you being dramatic. That's not weakness. That's your nervous system doing exactly what it was built to do.

Understanding this changed how I work with trauma. and it changes how clients experience themselves. When you know that your reaction is a biological response, not a character flaw, something shifts.

If you've been hard on yourself for the way your body responds to things, this one's for you.
