Irritation is the most common side effect of using fruit acids in this way. Lemon is tremendously acidic, which will damage and annoy your skin. If your skin is dry, or sensitive, it may burn your skin, cause rashes and even allergic reactions.

Additionally, any fruits that contain citrus are known to increase skin sensitivity and may cause sunburn as a result. Remember, not to apply lemon anywhere on your body before going outside in direct sunlight. The burns I have seen! 🥵

Using a spot treatment containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid is a good idea if you've picked. The spot treatment can also help you keep your hands off it, prevent infection, and speed along the healing process.

If the pimple appears more swollen and painful after picking, apply a cold compress to the affected area for five minutes or so to reduce swelling.

If you’re picking your skin until it bleeds, STOP! You can cause a pimple to get worse, and certainly increase risk of infection and scarring, gently blot the area with a clean tissue or cotton pad and clean the area with alcohol.

Remember, it's always recommended to not pick and squeeze. Not to mention putting your fingers on your face is generally a bad idea and pushes more dirt, oil and bacteria into your pores. 🦠
