🌹 A Tribute to Mother Zeineb Yassin ማማ ዘይነብ ያሲን (1918–2005)

Today, we remember and honor Mother Zeineb Yassin — a strong Eritrean mother whose life became part of the long journey of sacrifice, resilience, and national memory.

Born and raised in Afabet, she joined the Eritrean struggle in 1977 together with her husband and her two sons. During the difficult years of the armed struggle, she worked behind the military lines, supporting freedom fighters and helping mobilize the people.

Mother Zeineb was especially remembered for her powerful revolutionary Tigrait poetry, through which she encouraged courage, unity, endurance, and hope during some of the hardest years of the struggle.

Among many fighters, she became lovingly known as:
“The Mother of the Fighters.”

After the EPLF withdrew from Afabet, she spent much of her life in Nakfa until the day of Eritrean independence. Later, she returned to her hometown of Afabet, where she lived until her passing on January 28, 2005.

Today, on Mother’s Day, we remember not only our mothers at home, but also the mothers who carried the burden of struggle, sacrifice, displacement, and hope for future generations.

May her memory continue to live on.

Student ➝ Freedom Fighter ➝ Businessman
"ንኹሉ እንቋዕ ኣርከብኩሉ!" ምህሮ፡ ገድሊ፡ ንግዲ።
Today, I stand as a blessed man. Decades have passed…
Through struggle, through sacrifice, through survival,
And by the grace of God, I am still here. Strong. Standing.
If someone asks me:
“Which life was the best?”
My answer may surprise you…
It was the time of the armed struggle.
Not because it was easy,
But because it was pure.
No bills. No shopping. No insurance. No medical costs.
Only one mission:
Freedom.
Every day, we marched forward with purpose.
Every step was toward victory.
Every breath carried hope.
Today, I am a businessman. I have responsibilities, commitments, and a different kind of battle.
But I never forget.
I never forget the brothers and sisters who stood beside me…
Who fought with courage…
And who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
They are not gone.
They live in our history.
They live in our land.
They live in us.
I am not just a man of today,
I am a witness of yesterday.
I am a living archive.
I am a story that continues.
🙏 Respect to all our martyrs.
🇪🇷 Honor to those who sacrificed everything.

👉 We didn’t sacrifice for silence, follow to keep the truth alive.
