For our monthly we wanted to share one of our favourite stories from the past couple of years about Shanice and her daughter Priya and the difference the KLF Physical, Recreational, and Cultural grant has meant.
At just 5 years old, Priya discovered a love for horseback riding! 🐴 Thanks to this grant, she’s learned to regulate her energy, take on the responsibility of caring for animals, and most importantly, she’s found a new source of confidence.
Shanice put it beautifully, “Through this grant, she was able to try something new that connected her heart to animals, nature, and exploring the outdoors.”
We are so grateful to do this work and support journeys like Priya’s.

It’s the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day and there are tons of events and activities to get involved in up and down starting on June 19!
📍June 19: Head to Transfer Beach in for a community celebration with Stz'uminus First Nation from 12 noon - 3 pm.

📍June 20: We’ll celebrate the day with K'ómoks First Nation at the Comox Valley Exhibition grounds from 2 - 9 pm. Juno award winner Aysanabee will be there to close out the celebration! 🎵

📍June 21: Mid-Island Metis Nation hosts the annual celebration at Swy-a-lana with music and dancers and a variety of speakers - downtown from 2-5 pm.

📍June 21: Quw'utsun is at Si’em Lelum Gym and Fields in from 11 am - 3 pm with drumming, singing, medicine making, a vendor market and a bouncy castle for the young or young-at-heart.

📍And finally this week is your last chance to visit the Nanaimo museum and take in their many great installations while supporting our work - admission donations made this week will be donated to Kw'umut Lelum Foundation!
