📈 A K-shaped economy describes a scenario where different segments of society or industries recover and perform at vastly divergent rates, creating a gap that resembles the arms of the letter “K”.

While one group thrives and trends upward, another struggles and trends downward, highlighting extreme wealth and opportunity inequality.

The Anatomy of the “K”
* The Upper Arm (Trending Upward): This represents high-income earners, “knowledge workers,” and asset holders. Because of high net worths, they have significantly benefited from stock market surges, housing booms, and low interest rates. This demographic accounts for the majority of consumer spending, driving growth in luxury goods, high-end travel, and tech services.

* The Lower Arm (Trending Downward): This represents lower- and middle-income households, renters, and workers in vulnerable sectors. This group struggles with the rising cost of living, sticky inflation on essential goods, wage stagnation, and higher borrowing costs. They are increasingly relying on credit cards and “buy-now-pay-later” (BNPL) options to make ends meet.
