Why We March
Why We March is where q***r people find community, compassion, and connection—not just for today, but for the future we’re building together.

Remembering Martin Withenshaw
A Pillar of London’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Community
Why We March is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Martin Withenshaw, a beloved member of our 2SLGBTQIA+ community and a steadfast advocate for inclusion, dignity, and q***r joy in London.
Martin was more than a familiar face — he was a constant presence. His warmth, encouragement, and unwavering belief in community care touched countless lives. Whether he was showing up for local events, uplifting marginalized voices, or simply offering a kind word when it was needed most, Martin embodied what it means to build community by showing up with heart.
For many, Martin was a mentor, a friend, and a reminder that we are stronger when we lift one another up. His legacy lives on in the lives he supported, the spaces he helped strengthen, and the courage he inspired in others.
To Martin’s family, friends, and all who loved him: our hearts are with you. Our community mourns alongside you, and we honour the light he brought into the world.
As we continue our work, we carry Martin’s spirit forward — with compassion, resilience, and a commitment to making our community safer, kinder, and more connected.
May his memory be a blessing, and may we continue to uplift one another in the ways he taught us.
