If relationships feel harder for you, one of the most important things to understand is this:
Your nervous system is part of every relationship.
When you have a trauma history, your body is constantly scanning for safety. That means connection can feel intense, confusing, or overwhelming even when nothing is “wrong.” You might overthink, shut down, get activated quickly, or feel exhausted after emotional conversations.
One simple but powerful shift is to stop judging your reactions and start noticing your body instead.
Ask yourself questions like:
• Do I feel calm or tense around this person?
• Do I feel like I can be myself, or am I managing their emotions?
• After time together, do I feel settled or wired?
Healthy relationships tend to feel more steady than dramatic. More grounding than urgent. That can feel unfamiliar at first if your system learned love through stress.
Nothing here means you are broken or can't enjoy healthy love. It just means your body learned patterns that made sense at the time.
