🌱 Rhubarb Season Has Arrived! 🌱

Our homegrown rhubarb is ready, and this year’s crop is absolutely stunning! We’re harvesting a beautiful deep-red stalk variety that’s as gorgeous as it is delicious. Tart, bright, and packed with flavour, rhubarb is one of those seasonal treats that only comes around for a short time.

Looking for something a little different? Here are a few quirky ways to use rhubarb:

🍹 Blend it into lemonade or cocktails for a tangy twist
🌮 Make a rhubarb salsa to serve with grilled chicken, fish, or tacos
🧀 Pair it with brie or aged cheddar on a charcuterie board
🌶️ Cook it into a rhubarb chutney for burgers and sandwiches
🍓 Add it to strawberry jam for a classic spring combination

Quick Rhubarb Crisp

2. Toss with sugar and 1 tbsp flour.
3. Mix oats, brown sugar, flour, and butter until crumbly.
4. Sprinkle over rhubarb.
5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35–40 minutes until bubbly and golden.

A week ago, our apple trees were covered in blossoms — and buzzing with some very important visitors. 🍎🐝

Bees play a huge role in apple production. As they move from blossom to blossom collecting nectar and pollen, they help pollinate the flowers that will eventually become apples. Without pollinators, there would be far fewer fruits to harvest.

One of the coolest things to spot is the pollen packed onto their legs — those little yellow “pollen baskets” are called corbiculae. Bees can visit thousands of blossoms in a single day, carrying pollen between flowers as they go.

Apple blossoms only last for a short window each spring, which makes them feel even more special. The petals may be gone now, but thanks to the bees’ hard work, the next stage of the season is already underway. 🌸➡️🍏

An appreciation post for the blossoms that brightened the orchard last week — and for the bees that make it all possible.
