Why these are my hills:

1️⃣Sets: I promise, nothing bad happens if you just keep the parts you use/like and let go of the rest.

2️⃣Gifts: The thought is the real gift; letting go of the physical item doesn’t make you a bad person.

3️⃣The flow: if you don’t balance the flow of things entering your home with things leaving, you’ll always have clutter.

4️⃣Selling: another demand on your time and energy and it’s still clutter until you do it.

5️⃣Forgot about it: a sign you don’t need it.

6️⃣Someday; when you buy a lottery ticket, you could win (it’s possible), but not likely (probable). Have someday scenarios that are likely to happen.

7️⃣Memories: If you want a memory trigger, take a photo and create a Memories album in your phone.

8️⃣Kids’ stuff: They won’t have the time, energy, space, or desire for this.

9️⃣Expensive items: If it’s not being used, it’s clutter; letting go won’t cost you more money.

🔟The real cost: Clutter isn’t free, it quietly costs you space, time, and peace of mind and these things are priceless!

Which one of these did you need to hear the most?

The Goal ➡️ make space for the car

How we did it ➡️ Decluttered, created zones, and added some matching and complementary touches to the great storage pieces already in place, including:

✨More slat panels and additional hooks so EVERYTHING, including the ladders that were blocking the back exit, have a spot to hang;

✨Additional hooks to hang lesser-used items higher;

✨Another shelf to get smaller items off the floor;

✨Anew recycling bin set up that keeps the bins close to the door but leaves more space on the stairs; and

✨Smaller bins in the sport/toy cart to prevent smaller items from getting lost at the bottom.

The result is a garage that makes it easy to find and access everything AND to park a vehicle.

Tell me, can you park in your garage?

If you can’t but want to, reach out to see how BirchTree Organizing can help!

Taller than me, but forever my little girl!

Love my people for giving me a day filled with all my favourite things.

To be seen is to be loved and I was very loved today. ❤️

My daughter even FINALLY watched one of my all time favourite movies with me: Ever After.

Have I been trying for years to get her to watch it with me?

Yes

Did I take advantage of the fact it’s Mother’s Day and knew she wouldn’t say no to make it happen today?

Yep!

Did she love it?

She sure did!

As I knew she would, which is why I don’t feel bad about it at all! She gave the movie 8/10.

And rewatching this favourite with her, seeing her reactions to the same moments I love in the movie, just made me love it even more!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s, mother figures and mom’s to-be, I hope you had the most wonderful day!

Spoiler alert: it’s not about right or wrong.

When it comes to decluttering, so many people get stuck, struggling to make the “right” decision, for every item.

But the truth is, it’s not about right or wrong.

What REALLY matters when decluttering is making an ALIGNED decision; one that fits with your current life, your space and how you want your home to feel.

An aligned decision removes the pressure of getting it right and shifts the focus to making intentional decisions that support your goals.

It might mean letting go of:

✨something that used to matter, but no longer serves you,

✨a well-intentioned gift you appreciated the thought and effort behind, but that missed the mark,

✨supplies for hobbies, activities or projects you had the best intentions of completing, but never did, or

✨of items you spent money on believing you would use/wear, but in the end did not.

An aligned decision can also mean choosing to keep something because:

✨it genuinely adds value or joy to your life right now

✨you have a specific plan for the use of an item or

✨the item supports a specific goal you are pursuing.

Shifting your mindset from “Is this the right choice?” to “Does this feel aligned with the life I’m creating?” makes the decluttering process lighter, more intuitive and a whole lot less overwhelming.
