DENTIN HYPERSENSITIVITY
In other words, sensitive teeth caused by exposed dentin—that cannot be ascribed to any other dental defect or disease.

A good example would be the teeth in the photo. Exposed dentin caused by a combination of loss of enamel and gingival recession.

In my experience, DH affects between 10% - 25 % of our patients. It is more common than you think.

To manage DH, we always give preventive advice and at-home treatment first(for example, desensitizing toothpaste). For those with no pain relief, we then consider topical agents, adhesive materials, and gum grafting to cover the exposed dentin. In this case, we did 4 fillings.
