The Program
The Drive Program is responsible for providing safe, reliable and timely transportation services for individuals and families often originating from High Level, as well as other regions of Alberta, so they can access services and connect with family.
The Position
The Casual Social Services Driver - Supervised Visit Es**rt position is suitable for post secondary students who wish to gain experience in Social Services, with youth and families and/or any driving age applicant with a flexible schedule and desire to be a role model for clients and their children.
Transporting a child to a supervised access visit with their parents or to a medical appointment are examples of escorted drives.
In Your Role You Will
• Must be available for a variety of shifts including weekdays, evenings and weekends to accommodate needs of clients.
• Accept drive assignments according to directions stated on referrals, on a prearranged and on-call basis.
• Use own vehicle to transport clients to assigned locations (appointments, supervised visits, etc.) – mileage & expenses reimbursed
• Remain with family for the duration of supervised access visit, monitoring all parent-child interactions for safety and appropriateness; observing and taking log notes on family interaction
• Work in accordance with/gain knowledge of the Child Welfare Act and Child and Family Services Authorities
• Prepare accurate & timely reports/records of all drives, supervised visits, vehicle safety inspections, etc. as per WJS Policy as required.
• Report any discrepancies in vehicle operation.
• Represent WJS in a professional manner
• Work within all safety and privacy frameworks and policies
*** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 3 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.
As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
• Valid Class 5 (not Graduated) Alberta Driver’s License with 5+ years driving experience, insurance and clean Drivers Abstract
• Preference for persons with previous social services experience (or another helping profession).
• Reliable vehicle with backseat for transporting children in approved infant/child care seat (supplied)
• As all files are electronic, candidates must have good computer skills - for emailing and document preparation.
• Must be able to prepare accurate & timely reports for supervised visits when required.
• Stamina for long periods of driving
• Clear Criminal Record and Child Welfare Intervention check
• Valid First Aid / CPR Certificate (or willingness to attend training)
• Willing to take employer-provided training in Su***de Intervention/Prevention and cultural sensitivity

WJS Canada is recruiting a Youth Shelter Worker (also known as Residence Worker) for our trauma informed team to serve as a positive role model, provide care and optimize each youth’s potential in a supportive environment. You will nurture personal growth, teach life skills and provide compassionate care for emotional issues, abuse, mental health concerns, abandonment and addictions. As well as, support/supervise children and youth, maintain the home (cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.) and handle any crisis situations that may occur (AWOL, persons in care under the influence of drug or alcohol, etc.).
The Youth Horizons program, in the Gordon Head area of Saanich, provides support in a safe home environment for up to 5 at-risk youth (13-18 years of age) receiving services through the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).
• Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Work, Social Services; Behavioural Intervention, Addictions, Criminology, or equivalent experience
• 1+ year experience - such as a group home, emergency shelter, community support worker, foster care, educational assistant or supported independent living.
• Valid BC Driver’s License, clean driver’s abstract & own vehicle
• ASST Su***de, Self Harm, Crisis Intervention, Indigenous Culture training beneficial
