Spice Up Your Night !!!

I love a good themed dinner. It makes what was once a boring weeknight dinners into a fun family night full of flavours from around the world.

Greek Night was a hit !

With classic Mediterranean flavours of garlic, oregano, mint and lemon your taste buds will be zinging !!

Chicken Souvlaki, Tzatziki and Greek salad were on the menu.
These blends are so versatile you can use the recipes on the seasonings, or use your imagination and create any meal to your family’s needs.

Sunday Meal Prep

To get myself prepared for the busy week to come I like to take some time to clean out the fridges, create a meal plan, bake some snacks for school and shop accordingly.
During the week I plan meals that are quick and easy yet still nourishing for the family. Since we are so busy with the kid’s activities planning ahead and making sure we have a stocked pantry and freezer is key to eating whole nourishing real food! It can be very easy to just go to a drive thru and pick up something quick but that’s not helping anyone especially our health! As I can’t say it never happens I can say it’s my #1 priority to cook as much from home and from scratch for my family as I can.

How are you and your family prepared for a power outage??💡⛈

Where we live in BC it’s not very common to have an extended outage. The longest we have been without power was 8 hours. I don’t have a lot of experience dealing with days or weeks without power or water due to extreme weather, accidents or natural disasters.
That doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen and we should just hope it will never happen to us and not be prepared!!
So what can we do ?????
Think about a typical day and everything you do and use. Are you able to live without or have the means to adjust in any of these situations.
Lighting ~ candles, flashlights, lanterns, lighters, matches, headlamps and extra batteries.
Heat~ if the gas is still working we can use our fireplace and stove for cooking. Have extra blankets and warm clothes on hand during fall and winter months. If you have a generator or solar charging stations you can use space heaters as well.

Food ~ how log will your food stay safe in the fridge/ freezer before spoiling??? Do you have other options to cooking like a camping stove with extra propane. BBQ ~ gas or propane make sure you have back up. A generator was the best investment we made last year as this will keep our deep freezer going as long as we have gas !! I can cook up or preserve the food In the fridge. Frozen water bottles is another way to keep your food cool longer in the fridge, so having a few on hand is handy.

Water ~ In these situations it’s not just about how much drinking water you and your family need. You have to think about cooking, washing, bathing, toilet flushing and filtering. Your not going to use all your drinking water to bath twice a day so stocking up on wipes is a necessity. Having proper filtration options is important and filling a bath tube with water is necessary.

Something I would like to do with my family seasonally is have power outage drills. Where we live with out the these needs that we so rely on and see how we can survive. Each season will have different situations and needs so good to have a prepared drill for all !!
