💙 Volunteer Spotlight: Thank You to Our Watershed Monitoring Volunteers!

Behind every water quality reading, habitat assessment, and stream survey is a dedicated volunteer helping us better understand and protect the Alouette watershed.

Whether they're collecting water quality data, assessing fish habitat, recording stream conditions, or spending hours in the field, rain or shine, our volunteers play a vital role in the work we do. Their commitment provides valuable information that helps guide restoration projects, monitor watershed health, and support healthy fish and wildlife populations.

This work takes patience, curiosity, and a passion for the environment, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who shares their time and expertise with ARMS.

To all of our habitat assessment and water quality monitoring volunteers: thank you for being the eyes and ears of our watershed. Your dedication makes a lasting difference, one stream at a time. 🌿🐟💙

The Sockeye Are Returning! ❤️

Summer marks the return of one of the Alouette Watershed's most remarkable natural events.

Each year, sockeye salmon make their way back to the Alouette River on their journey to the Alouette system. But their journey doesn't end there. Because there is currently no fish passage around the dam, these returning sockeye are carefully trapped and transported to Alouette Lake, where they can reach their spawning grounds.

The Alouette watershed is home to one of only six known populations of deep lake-spawning sockeye salmon in the world, making these fish truly extraordinary and an important part of our natural heritage.

If you're enjoying the river this summer, you can help protect these incredible salmon by:

🐟 Giving fish plenty of space and observing from a respectful distance.
🚶 Staying out of the water where salmon are actively migrating.
🐕 Keeping dogs leashed and away from the river where salmon are present.
🚮 Packing out all litter and helping keep our waterways clean.
📸 Taking photos from the riverbank so the fish can continue their journey with as little disturbance as possible.

Every sockeye that returns represents years of survival and an incredible journey home. By giving them the space they need, we can all play a part in protecting one of the world's rare deep lake-spawning sockeye populations.
