It is getting dangerously hot out there, especially for those working outdoors.
Employers have a legal duty to protect their staff from extreme heat. This means providing water, shade, and ensuring everyone knows the signs of heat stress. Fines for failing to protect workers can reach up to $2 million for corporations.
And for employees: remember that you have the right to refuse unsafe work. If the heat is putting your health in danger and no precautions are being taken, you have the right to speak up.
Stay safe, stay hydrated, and know your rights!

A legitimate employer will NEVER ask you to pay money to access your own wages.
Toronto Police have issued a warning about a sophisticated online employment scam targeting job seekers. Victims are hired for remote "work tasks," only to be told they must pay fees to fix alleged mistakes, restore their performance ratings, or withdraw their earnings.
Unfortunately, by the time the victims realize they have been scammed, they have lost both their time and their money.
Under Canadian employment law, an employer cannot force you to pay fees to access your earnings, nor can they arbitrarily withhold wages for alleged performance issues. If an employment opportunity requires you to pay upfront fees, send money to "unlock" your pay, or buy your own equipment from a "specified vendor" with a fake cheque, it is almost certainly a scam.
Always review employment contracts carefully before starting work. If an offer seems suspicious or violates basic employment standards, protect yourself.
Contact Rudner Law today if you need an employment contract reviewed.

Is your business prepared for a prolonged period of economic uncertainty?
The United States has refused to renew CUSMA for another 16 years, triggering a shift into annual reviews. The Bank of Canada has already linked this drawn-out process to five straight quarters of declining business investment. Sectors like automotive, agriculture, steel, and lumber face continued volatility — forcing employers to make difficult decisions about production, hiring, and capital spending.
When economic rules are unclear, workforce planning becomes incredibly challenging. Will you need to scale back hiring? Are restructurings or layoffs on the horizon?
During periods of economic volatility, proactive legal strategy is essential. Whether you are navigating workforce reductions, adjusting compensation structures, or dealing with the employment law fallout of supply chain disruptions, Rudner Law is here to help you manage your risk and protect your business.
Are you adjusting your workforce plans due to trade uncertainty? Contact Rudner Law today for strategic employment law guidance.
