🎥 Education Worker Wednesday continues!

This week, meet Chris Bakker, head secretary at a K–12 school with 1,100 students. Chris and her team of four office assistants keep the entire building running — answering calls, supporting teachers, helping families, managing attendance, budgets, and everything in between.

But with staffing cuts, Chris now does two job descriptions for one wage. Her team lost 17.5 hours, and that workload didn’t disappear — it was redistributed. Attendance, budgets, and daily operations now take three people to manage.

When offices are stretched thin, students feel it. Calls go to voicemail. Support is delayed. The personal connection families rely on becomes harder to provide.

Chris’s message is clear: proper staffing would transform the level of care schools can offer.
