An image of one of our electricians torquing down a large electrical termination in one of the largest pieces of switchgear we have worked with in the last few years. This disconnecting switch isolates an entire greenhouse from the utility transformer outside, to create safe isolation during routine work or an emergency, and is a requirement by code on any service larger than 300 volts or 200 amps. As this disconnecting switch handles 800 amps at 600 volts, it’s absolutely a requirement. Using a torque wrench, especially on equipment this large, is vital. Terminations are the leading point of failure in electrical, and when the wires carry as much power as these ones do, over-torquing or under-torquing can lead to premature equipment failure, or worse, a fire.
