Suite aux pitches des 12 demi-finalistes lors de l’événement Entertain-AI en février, 6 projets ont été sélectionnés pour la finale par un jury composé de : Banque Nationale, Capgemini, E-AI, Moment Factory, Next AI, Prompt, OVHcloud, Scale AI / ALL IN, Triptyq Capital, Xn Québec.

54 films. 5,500 submissions. 80 countries. One question running through every panel at the World AI Film Festival 2026 in Cannes: Is AI cinema ready to grow up?

The official selection featured shorts, advertising, and micro-series, all created using at least three generative AI tools, and was screened at the Palais des Festivals and several other venues across the city.

With nearly 5,500 submissions and over 80 countries represented, WAiFF has established itself as a global benchmark at the intersection of AI and the creative industries.

Among the projects featured, screenwriter and director Nathalie Marchak described how her upcoming English-language feature, A Beautiful Journey, relies on a hybrid approach combining AI, live-action shooting, and 3D.

The choice to film a scene featuring a mermaid surrounded by tiger sharks is simultaneously aesthetic, economic, and ecological; there's no longer any need to move an entire crew to the other side of the world.

AI allows her to fundamentally restructure the production pipeline: fewer crew displacements, tighter aesthetic control, and a directing language that reclaims freedom of camera movement.

Director Mathieu Kassovitz illustrated this concretely with his own project: "A film that might have cost $50–60M is now closer to $25M using AI."

For us at E-AI, this is exactly the shift we're seeing across our ecosystems: AI isn't replacing writing or actors; it's redrawing the production stages and reshaping the time/budget/creativity tradeoffs.

The key question for us becomes: how do we give independent creators and producers, especially in Canada, access to these tools without losing artistic control?
