A new community project in Montreal’s Pointe-Saint-Charles neighbourhood aims to get people excited about rain.

The initiative is inspired by Montreal’s green alleys, and it expands on the idea by adding some blue.

That means rerouting rainwater destined for sewers towards basins with plants called bioretention areas.

The basins are still being completed, volunteers will plant greenery in the basins in June and the alley will be completed by September, according to those behind the project.

The alley is the first of its kind in Quebec, and it took five years to achieve.

The idea is to offer a new kind of green space to the community, while taking pressure off the city’s sewer system.
