HULLABALOO: a noisy commotion or uproar, originated around 1762 in Northern England and Scotland as a rhyming reduplication of "hollo" or "hallo" (a shout to attract attention). It likely evolved from early forms like "hollo-ballo" and "hulla-baloo," possibly blending with the Scots word "baloo" (a lullaby).
Wherever it originated, Nanaimo has its own Hullabaloo!
