1. Notice his short, choppy shuffles due to the uncertainty of an unpredictable stimulus (eg., low line drive to OF where base runner isn’t sure if the ball will be caught). If shuffles become too large or airtime is too long, the consequence can be the difference between safe and out by a matter of inches.
2. Notice how he shifts his centre of mass appropriately so forces can be applied to the ground at optimal angles and in a timely fashion (see video).
Train with purpose and detail, but let instincts take over when it’s time to shine.
