Our goal is to understand the impact of gynecology referrals in our region with the ultimate aim of improving timely access for all those who need care.

This project is an approved Ottawa Hospital Quality Improvement Project.

Cervical screening changes. Quebec and Ontario

PAP tests will be replaced with HPV tests.

Some key points from this interview:

1. The sensitivity* of HPV tests is higher than the sensitivity of PAP tests. Because of that they will be done every 5 years instead of every 3 years

2. HPV test procedure is similar to a PAP test

3. Home kits for self tests may be offered in the future

4. Screening will start at age 25

* Sensitivity: the ability of a test to correctly identify patients with a condition
