Ottawa Zouk

Helga has been dancing since 2006. “I started with Ballroom Latin Dancing in 2012 in Halifax and I have been dancing on and off since then.” She started Zouk Summer 2021. A friend needed a dance partner and asked her to join. “I love dance and Zouk is beautiful and allows me to express myself”. Helga is indeed one expressive person! An artist at heart following the waves of Brazilian Zouk. 💃

Elvis is an avid dancer and rising Kizomba instructor in the Ottawa Dance Community. Humble at heart, he has been partner-dancing for 7 years now, however he was born to be a dancer. He started dancing Congolese dances like soukous and his passion for dance really evolved once he came across Salsa at the Ottawa University. He only started learning BZouk this year. “I chose [Brazilian Zouk] because there was an interest in Ottawa and opportunities for practices.” And we are ever pleased you are dedicated to your practices!

Helga and Elvis partnered up in the Flashmob we danced at the end of the summer. Their vibrancy is still lingering in our hearts! 💛

Sondes officially started dancing Zouk in January 22. “With the Pandemic, I wanted to learn a new dance and I got hooked with the moves, and seriously, the group: good vibes and nice people.” 🤍 She always brings her positive energy and is incredibly motivational. She has dedicated a large number of hour to learning Brazilian Zouk and she is ready to dance with you in our socials, always with a large beautiful smile on her face!

Michael started dancing 17 years ago. “Tango was my first partner dance, a woman introduced me, and I fell for the dance too.” What a passionate man! Michael has moved to Ottawa recently for LOVE. Who doesn’t love a Canadian, right? People cross oceans for us! 🇨🇦 He has danced zouk for over 1 year and he admitted he likes kizomba better. 😢

It’s OK Michael, we still love you and we hope you will continue dancing Brazilian zouk with us!
