Here's a photo from the Studio Theatre, Perth ON production of Lady Susan, in October last year. This play was an adaptation of the Jane Austen story. The costume colours were inspired by the Bridgerton series.

A STUDY IN BLUE: Here's my latest piece. A quilted wall hanging, mounted on a board with three coat hooks at the bottom, designed to be used as a coat rack. It's a Peacock, with five shades of blue in the tail, and three shades of blue in the body. Machine appliqued using decorative stitches. Recently displayed at a Smiths Falls quilt show.

HOW HARD COULD IT BE?

This is the question I asked myself several months ago when I decided to create backsplash tiles for my new kitchen.
And the answer? Very hard!
Starting with unglazed (bisque) ceramic tiles, my goal was to create over a hundred finished tiles, through a process of painting, glazing and firing. In addition, I also wanted to create a centre-piece panel of multiple tiles for the section of wall behind the stove.
It has been a long, complicated journey, but yesterday I was able to declare victory, as this picture shows. The learning curve was steep, and success only came after several failures. But the final result was worth all the effort.
My inspiration for the design was the Delft Tiles Company of The Netherlands: particularly their blue field tiles and their “Bowl with lemons and ladybugs” panel (HF-4b). On their website they write: “We hope our website inspires you”. It did.
