Love In Bloom Cakes

My dearest 2021 weddings,

I know I haven’t really booked a lot of you yet. But I’m working on it. Just making sure I have a clean and organized wedding calendar next year ready for you guys and also for my postponing couples.

I can’t wait to finally start chatting with you about your cake and your love story while we stuff our faces with cakes!

This month & onwards will be dedicated to answering all of your emails and scheduling your cake tastings. Please know that I am going to answer emails from oldest to newest, but I promise to reach yours as soon as I possibly can.

Who would have thought instant coffee, gelatin and cornstarch would be so useful for this cake design? I made this cake for a breathtaking editorial last week, curated by an amazing team! And as per usual, I got lost inside my bubble while making this cake from 5am to I don’t even know what time I finished it, lol, it was so fun to make! I started with a blank canvas and a blurry idea of some of the elements I need to incorporate in it, totally didn’t plan anything specific for this design. No sketch. No notes. Totally just swam through the flowing creative juices I had that morning, patching up details by details as I go. And this drama queen was created!

Fun fact about me, I have a short background in Fine Arts. It was the very first course I took when I was in university. Back then, I thought art should be perfect and flawless. I thought you have to use specific and expensive top quality materials to have a masterpiece. That’s the main reason I had to shift my course because we couldn’t afford the things I had to get to finish my projects. But somehow, art still find its way back to me. With a different mentality, I am able to enjoy it more, loving every flaws and imperfections in my work. Using anything that I already have and getting inspirations from the simple things that are around me, it changed the way I look at art. Now, for me, art is a bunch of unexpected things flowing in a beautiful maze of accidents and flaws waiting to be uncovered with open eyes and a creative mind. Like using instant coffee to paint the edges of the torn love letters on this cake. Or using gelatin and cornstarch to achieve this linen textures on this edible silk. Who would have thought that at times you lost sight of perfection, magic happens?

On this day a year ago, I was invited by and of .events to help marry 9 lovely couples and make their .ca wedding extra special at the Underground. Even before they contacted me, I have secretly been waiting and wishing to be a part of one, so you can imagine how happy I was when they asked me! (I literally jumped off my seat!).

I made 9 single-tier buttercream cakes, 1 cake for each sweet couple to cut, take photos with and take home with them. Each cake having a different stenciled palette buttercream painting and fresh florals arranged differently on each cake. They were so fun to make!

Truly a pleasure working with all of the amazing vendors, to be a part of each of the couple’s special day and being able to help raise money for a great purpose at the same time! It was one of the highlights of my summer last year!
