One thing about forest fire smoke is it makes a person not take for granted a good clean air shed.

Dense coniferous forests were much less common before humans arrived in North America and removed conifer eating megafauna. This picture sums up the issue as a continuous crown fire eats through dense spruce. Spruce makes up 2 out of 3 trees in Canada. We can manage some areas to keep the crown bulk density lower but we can't manage it all.
Hopefully some genius doesn't decide to go an do a massive replant with pine and spruce after 80 million acres since 2023 of burnt forest looks easy to plant. Like Grandma says, let the forest come back naturally.
We need to take a look at the multi million year average forest cover to understand why todays forests are missing some key ingredients.
