On this day in 2006, Italy defeated France 5-3 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw following extra time to win the FIFA World Cup. 🏆

Fabio Grosso converted the decisive penalty, and captain Fabio Cannavaro lifted the trophy as Italy captured its fourth World Cup title, and its first since 1982.

Twenty years later, the Azzurri’s triumph in Berlin remains one of the greatest moments in Italian football history. 💙⚽🇮🇹
