Hiring decisions are not always based solely on skills or experience. Research shows that employers are significantly more likely to interview applicants with English-sounding names, even when education, qualifications, and work history are identical. This highlights how bias can influence decisions before a candidate is ever met.

Understanding how unconscious and systemic bias operates in hiring helps explain why unequal outcomes persist. Recognizing these patterns is an important step toward creating fairer recruitment practices and more equitable access to employment opportunities.
