Sometimes we don’t slow down enough to reflect and be grateful… but this past week had me doing just that while I enjoyed my breakfast today.

Around 3:30pm on Wednesday, while stepping into the crosswalk at an intersection in our neighbourhood with one of my daycare kiddos, I suddenly came face to face with a young driver who had run a red light.

It all happened so fast.

I looked up and locked eyes with the driver just as they realized what was happening. I saw the shock on their face as they slammed on the brakes — stopping just in time before we became hood ornaments.

Instinctively, I pointed up at the traffic light above us to show that their light was red and that we had the right of way to walk. In that brief moment I could see the remorse on their face.

Afterward, once the adrenaline wore off, it really hit me how quickly things could have turned out very differently.

And in that moment… I felt incredibly grateful.

Grateful that the driver reacted in time.
Grateful that my daycare kiddo beside me was safe.
Grateful that we were able to simply continue walking.

Sometimes life gives us moments that remind us how fragile things can be — and how important it is to slow down, pay attention, and appreciate the ordinary moments we so often take for granted.

A reminder for all of us behind the wheel — a few extra seconds of attention can make all the difference.
