modern quilts + handcrafted textile goods Sewing started for me as something very practical. My passion for sewing started when I was expecting my daughter.

This quilt is just for meeee! My husband and I are pretty passionate about our native gardens here, so when Lindsey released the Everbloom pattern a few years ago, it immediately went on my to-make list. I even took my Kona card out to the yard to try to match the colours to the purple coneflowers (echinacea purpurea) in our yard. Things really came together when I found the beautiful Charley Harper print (Summer Vol. 2) with native plants that we grow! Can you spot the little monarch chrysalis in the foliage? Getting to sit under this beautiful quilt in the brown dead of winter brings me happy feelings about the lush summer garden. The background is Essex yarn-dyed in nutmeg, and the flowers and binding are all Kona. I did vary the centre of the coneflowers to try to capture the natural colour variation the blooms have (see last photo—up close, they’re a beautiful ombré).

Had a bit of time to try to figure out this vintage Brother Super Streamliner today. It took a lot of fiddling with tension, but I think I’m underway!

Phew. Summer is chugging along and we are trying to make the most of it, which doesn’t leave much time for sewing.

Still here, though. No time for fancy photo ops. Making bits of progress where I can! I’m super thrilled with how this one is coming together (“Everbloom” pattern by Pen + Paper Patterns). Combining my love of native plants and quilts—colours picked right out of the gardens. This one will be just for ✨me✨
