SHIRP's office will close on December 23rd at 5 pm and reopen Tuesday, January 3rd at 9 am. You can use our resources throughout the holiday season (THANK YOU, HEALTHCARE WORKERS!), but if you need to request articles, sign up for an account, or need any other assistance from our office, make sure you do it this week. We can't guarantee how fast Interlibrary Loan articles will arrive, but get your requests in by Wednesday to have a good chance of receiving them by Friday afternoon.

The internet provides an opportunity for the open sharing of scientific knowledge around the world and across disciplines. However, most research is GIVEN to very large companies then SOLD back to us, typically via libraries. These companies make mega profits, and their prices increase year after year. It's an unsustainable system! The Open Access movement started in 2002 and supports FREE access to research. The Guardian article above is long but very interesting.
