If you’re the only one who understands your child… this matters.

How much of your child’s speech should you understand? 👇

A simple guideline SLP’s use shows that parents/caregivers and familiar listeners should understand the following amount of speech at these ages:

👉 By age 2: 50% of what they say should be understood
👉 By age 3: 75%
👉 By age 4: 100%

(McLeod & Crowe, 2018)

Speech clarity should improve a lot between ages 3–4. And when it doesn’t, many parents are told to wait.

But what I see all the time is:
The longer we wait, the harder the speech errors are to change.

Early support doesn’t just help speech—it helps confidence, frustration, and communication overall.

You don’t need to wait for someone else to say something.
If you’re noticing it, that’s enough 🤍

✨ Does your child say “tea” for “key” or “dough” for “go”? This is called fronting—a phonological pattern where front sounds (/t, d/) replace back sounds (/k, g/).

By age 3.5–4, kids should grow out of this pattern. If your child is still making these errors beyond the expected age, a speech-language pathologist (SLP) can help! 💬

Early support can make a big difference in helping your child be understood. 💕 Send us a message or fill out the intake form on our website—we’d love to connect with you! We have a few consistent spots still open for new clients, so reach out today to secure your time! 😊
