Both of our North American Giant Millipedes (Narceus americanus) emerged from beneath the leaves tonight and immediately started making their rounds when they caught the scent of fresh mushroom slices.

There’s something oddly mesmerizing about watching these gentle giants move—dozens of tiny legs working in perfect rhythm as they investigate every corner of their world.

Despite their intimidating size, Narceus americanus are harmless detritivores, helping break down decaying plant matter in forest ecosystems. Quiet, slow-moving, and surprisingly curious.
