ASPA is proud this year to sponsor the reissue of buttons from Neil Richards’ collection sexual and gender diversity.

The University of Saskatchewan Archives and Special Collections contains many original buttons related to 2SLGBTQIA+ rights and activism, and once again has chosen to reissue four buttons that are still relevant to issues the 2SLGBTQIA+ community faces today.

For more on the Neil Richards’ collection, watch this video: https://lnkd.in/g5jGZpcT on q***r Saskatchewan history and check out this guide: https://lnkd.in/geAEBViX to the resources available in the University Archives and Special Collections on Sexual and Gender Diversity.

President's Message: April 2026

Our organization has been incredibly busy this winter. This academic year has brought a mix of challenges and growth for our membership. Member engagement is incredibly strong, and we are honoured to represent and protect our members to ensure that you are treated fairly and are valued in the important work that you do. I give sincere thanks to our ASPA staff members, Angeline Hainstock and Shayne Meggs, as well as our entire executive for the time, dedication, and service they provide to members.

On March 21, 1960, police in Sharpeville, South Africa killed 69 people at a peaceful protest against apartheid “pass laws” (Government of Canada, 2024). This day recognizes the racial prejudices that occur daily around the world and aims to use awareness and education as a tool to prevent such discrimination from happening.

March 8 marks International Women's Day (IWD), a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, and a call to accelerate progress toward gender equality. It is a moment to recognize how far we have come in advancing women’s rights, while reaffirming our collective commitment to ensuring women’s full and equal participation in every aspect of society.
